A 90-page digital storybook featuring over 150 stories from the Welsh people during the pandemic.
Lead Designer - Organising and categorising a large volume of complex stories using Excel, and convert them into a cohesive, visually appealing 90 page, e-book using InDesign.
What I Worked On
Striking the right tone to honour the raw, honest stories while keeping each page unique. One moment, I was capturing the emotional depth of people’s struggles; the next, highlighting positive experiences like the joys of remote work.
The Toughest Challenge
Reading each story to design compelling page compositions and imagery to aid the reader in empathising with the writer's emotions and situation.
The Fun Part
This being my first storybook consisting of 90 pages, at first it was daunting seeing the wide experiences submitted by the South Wales People but it came together nicely.
What Surprised Me
When designing the second storybook I had to condense 6 months of work to 30 hours but already having the blueprint I designed meant I was able to efficiently input a whole new topic and stories and reconfigure the tone and visuals for this new product.
The Creative Twist
That the source of inspiration of design sometimes can come to a designer right from the source material - the stories gave me all the context I needed and so I needed to keep the stories at the center of all design decisions.
What I Learned
The project not only opened a new service priced at £5,000 on launch but also serves as a model for future publications with my then Director, colleagues, and clients praising the quality of the final product.
